A person has been found dead inside a car which was discovered on fire in Hastings on Tuesday night.
The fire, at a property on Irongate Road West, was reported to Police at 8.20pm.
In an update on Wednesday, police said they have since located a body inside the vehicle.
"Tragically, police have located a person deceased in the vehicle,” District Crime Services Manager Detective Inspector Martin James said.
"Officers have today been conducting a scene examination at the property where the car was located."
Det Insp James said work is underway to formally identify the victim and notify their family.
"Police are also working to establish the circumstances of the person’s death, which at this stage is being treated as unexplained," he said.
A scene examination is also being conducted at a property on Flaxmere's Sunderland Drive.
"Residents on Irongate Road West and Sunderland Drive can expect to see a continued police presence in the coming days, and we thank them in advance for their support and cooperation."
