Those in Auckland's New Lynn should brace themselves to hear a loud bang, police say, as New Zealand Defence Force personnel are set to let off a found homemade explosive.
A member of the public found the small device in a reserve near their home on Seabrook Ave at about 2pm on Wednesday, police said in a statement.
The device has now been taken to Lawson Park, which has been deemed safe to undertake a controlled detonation.
Residents are being warned to expect a loud bang but police said there's no cause for alarm or risk to public safety.
