A woman has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in Hamilton early this morning.
Police were called to a Rototuna residential address at about 2am on Wednesday after reports of an altercation.
Officers discovered a body upon arrival.
"The address has been cordoned and a scene examination is being conducted," Det Snr Sgt Neilson said.
At the property this morning, a police officer in a white boiler suit was carrying out inquiries while another stood guard. A large gazebo has been put up over an area of the berm and footpath.
Police said one person was taken into custody.
"Charges are being considered, and the community will continue see a significant police presence in the area while enquiries are conducted to establish what has occurred," Det Snr Sgt Neilson said.
"Police are speaking with those involved and are offering support to the victim's family."
In an update on Wednesday afternoon, police said a 45-year-old woman has been charged with murder.
"Police can confirm the man and woman were known to each other and we would like to reassure the community that we are not seeking anyone else in relation the man's murder," Det Snr Sgt Neilson said.
"We understand this tragic incident will have shaken the community and Police and Victim Support have been and will continue to work closely to offer support for those involved."
Police expect to remain at the scene over the next two days.
