Police say the firearm sighting reported earlier this morning in Auckland's CBD has now been resolved.

Earlier, armed officers stormed a hotel on Hobson Street after receiving reports about a firearm around 8am.

A witness told RNZ he saw two people arguing on the street. Soon after one of the men "got up, put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a gun and loaded it and pointed it at him and said he's going to shoot him."

A police spokesperson said "due to the nature of the report, specialist police units attended".

No injuries have been reported and police say there is no ongoing risk to the public in relation to the matter.

"Cordons have since been stood down on Hobson and Union Streets, however a number of police remain in the area as enquiries continue," police said.
