A search for a missing diver in Taranaki has been suspended after three days, police have confirmed.
The diver went missing off the coast of the small south Taranaki town of Patea on Sunday afternoon and officers have been conducting an extensive search ever since.
Police, with the assistance of Taranaki, Whanganui and Manawatū Coastguard volunteers and Whanganui and Manawatū Surf Lifesaving searched the area on Tuesday, including where the diver was last known to be extensively.
"Unfortunately, the man has not yet been located and police are providing support to his family," a spokesperson said.
Police confirmed search efforts will be evaluated on Wednesday and the National Dive Squad will remain available to assist when conditions allow.
"Police wish to thank everyone who has dedicated their time and effort assisting with the search," the spokesperson added.
