A Waikato man has been charged with the murder of Cedric Maniapoto in Raglan.
The 29-year-old is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Thursday.
"The investigation team has been working tirelessly to gather evidence in the case and are pleased with the outcome so far," Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson said in a statement on Wednesday.
It comes after Maniapoto, 58, was found dead at an address on Ohautira Rd on March 5 at 8.15am.
That same morning, just over an hour earlier, a dog called Napier showed up in a store in Te Uku, a farming settlement east of Raglan, with a gunshot wound.
Police continue to investigate the death and are not ruling out further arrests.
Police are urging anyone who saw a red 1992 Toyota Camry station wagon in the Te Mata, Te Uku and Raglan areas on the morning of March 5 to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call 105, quoting file number 240305/1701.
