Detectives in Pōneke/Wellington have held a media conference on Friday afternoon to give an update about an alleged family harm case.
It comes after two children, four and five, required surgery recently due to "horrific" injuries, said lead Detective Senior Sergeant Rebecca Cotton earlier on Friday.
The children, who are siblings, likely sustained the injuries over a period of time, she added.
"A medical assessment of the child and their sibling revealed further injuries believed to have been sustained in previous incidents."
