Woman stable after assault in Browns Bay, investigation continuing

A woman who was seriously injured after being assaulted at a Browns Bay property is now in a stable condition.

Emergency services were called to the Auckland suburb just before 6pm on Thursday after reports of an assault on Clyde Rd.

St John responded and treated two people at the scene. The woman was taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries, while the offender responsible for assaulting her died at the scene from self-inflicted injuries.

In an update on Friday, police said a scene examination is underway but the victim is now in a stable condition.

"Police believe this is an isolated incident where the victim and offender were known to each other," a spokesperson said.

Officers are supporting the victim and her family during the investigation and her recovery, the spokesperson added.

The road is still blocked while officers investigate what happened and the spokesperson thanked people for their cooperation.

On Thursday, a local business owner said she heard someone nearby was stabbed. She said there was a heavy police presence on the street at the time.
