Blaze breaks out in abandoned Wellington building

A fire investigator will attend the aftermath of a central Wellington overnight blaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said it responded to reports of a fire in an abandoned three-storey building on Tasman St in the suburb of Mt Cook just before midnight on Saturday.

Nine vehicles responded, including five fire appliances, two ladder trucks and a breathing apparatus unit to put out the blaze.

FENZ said the fire was extinguished by 2am and the structure was still standing.

The fire investigator will be on the scene on Sunday to determine the cause.
