A man has been arrested on burglary charges at a property in the rural Auckland town of Clevedon.

Officers spotted the man driving a vehicle, which was "of interest", along Boundary Rd in Papakura at about 9:30pm on Tuesday.

As the man travelled towards Clevedon, the Police Eagle helicopter monitored his movements.

"Eagle continued to monitor the vehicle until it arrived at a rural Clevedon property," a police statement said.

The property, a rental, was owned by New Zealand High Commissioner to the UK and former Auckland Mayor Phil Goff, Newshub understands.

That's the same property officers discovered a clandestine lab at last week while investigating a violent kidnapping.

"Six occupants from the address eventually exited from the house and were spoken to by our staff," said Insp Joe Hunter, of Counties Manukau South.

"The driver of the vehicle, a 34-year-old man, was arrested at the scene."

Police said the man was expected in the Manukau District Court on Wednesday.

"I want to acknowledge the work of the various police staff involved in last night's incident in ensuring it was resolved safely," Hunter said.

"It has also meant we have put the man before the court to face those burglary matters that were under investigation."
