A person has been critically injured after being hit by a car in Auckland's Point Chevalier.

Police were called to a collision involving a car and pedestrian between Point Chevalier Rd and Huia Rd about 5:35pm on Monday.

A police spokesperson told Newshub part of Great North Road in Point Chevalier will remain closed for some time while the serious crash unit investigates.

Photos taken at the scene show at least seven police cars and three ambulances. Another image shows a car with a smashed windscreen.
