Police have formally identified the woman found dead in the water off Māhina Bay on Sunday morning.
Detective Inspector Haley Ryan said she was a 60-year-old Hutt Valley woman who had recently been living in Levin. Police are unable to release her name at this stage.
"We send our condolences to her family and friends at this difficult time and are providing ongoing support," Det Insp Ryan said in a statement on Tuesday.
It's believed she may have been walking in the York Bay area, however police are continuing to investigate how she entered the water.
