The partner of murdered Christchurch woman Angela Blackmoore says if it wasn't for the media two people responsible for her murder would never have been convicted.
Rebecca Wright-Meldrum and David Hawken were sentenced to life with a minimum non-parole period of 10 years at Christchurch's High Court on Friday.
Blackmoore was killed by Jeremy Powell on August 17, 1995. Powell, who was convicted in 2020, was hired by the pair to kill the Christchurch mum.
Almost three decades after her murder, Wright-Meldrum and Hawken were found guilty after a five-week jury trial last year.
A Stuff investigation in May 2019 unearthed new details about the infamous cold case and sparked a record $100,000 reward for information.
A few months later, police revealed members of the public had got in contact after the reward was announced and Wright-Meldrum and Hawken were arrested.
Outside of court, Laurie Anderson thanked the media for its role in bringing the case to light.
"Thanks to the media… I know media is having a hard time at the moment but it's the media that brought this case to trial," he told reporters.
"We need a strong media for other people and other victims to make justice fair. Thank you for all your help."
