Michael Hill ramps up security at stores following spate of robberies

Michael Hill jewellery stores across Aotearoa will see an increase in security following a spate of robberies, most recently in its Northwest and Onehunga stores in Auckland.

CEO Daniel Bracken announced the action on Wednesday, stating collaborations with police continue on long-term safety and security plans.

"Over the past 12 months, Michael Hill has invested in a comprehensive safeguarding framework, working alongside leading retail security specialists to implement best in class security measures across New Zealand stores," the statement reads.

"These measures include the introduction of smash-proof assault glass, fog cannons, alarm screamers, personal alarms for staff, additional security cameras and the use of DNA spray technology."

Bracken said each situation is being reviewed in consultation with police.

"The key priority for us is ensuring the protection of our team members, customers and visitors, and support will be offered to all of those who experienced these incidents," he said.

"We remain committed to ensuring our stores have the best security and safeguarding measures in place to deter these incidents from occurring".
