Police have launched a homicide investigation after a person died in the Kāpiti Coast town of Waikanae Beach on Tuesday.
A number of police cars and an ambulance were sent to the residential Napier Grove address just after 4:20pm after reports a man had received serious injuries.
A police media event database referred to the incident as "grievous assault".
Police say the man died at the scene despite receiving medical attention.
It's understood he died after a suspected stabbing.
Cordons are in place and a scene examination will be conducted over the following days.
"Another man who was at the house, known to the victim, is speaking with Police and assisting with enquiries," Detective Senior Sergeant Pete Middlemiss said in a statement.
"Police do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public.
"Enquiries into the circumstances of what occurred are ongoing."
