Parliament resumes after summer break

After a two-month break Parliament is resuming.

The parliamentary year begins on Tuesday with a debate on the Prime Minister's statement, set down for 13 hours.

Prime Minister John Key has already set the scene for this year in a state of the nation speech in Auckland.

The main theme of that speech was building a strong economy that attracts new investment and creates more jobs, though the hurling of a sex toy at Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce on Friday got more international headlines.

The Government has a strong focus on Auckland, and Mr Key has announced a fast-tracking of an inner city rail link for New Zealand's largest city.
