West Coaster Maureen Pugh has been sworn in as a National Party list MP.
She's replaced former trade minister Tim Groser who has been appointed ambassador to Washington.
Ms Pugh was National's West Coast-Tasman candidate in the 2014 election when she ran second to Labour's Damien O'Connor.
Her family history on the coast goes back more than 150 years and she was elected to the Westland District Council in 1998.
She served two terms before becoming the district's first woman mayor, a position she held for nine years before standing down in 2013.
