Dame Patsy Reddy will be sworn in as Governor-General on Parliament's forecourt on Wednesday.
Prime Minister John Key has just announced the details of the ceremony.
Dame Patsy will become New Zealand's 21st Governor-General and the third woman to hold the position.
There will be a powhiri on the forecourt to welcome her to Parliament before the swearing-in ceremony takes place on the main steps.
The new Governor-General will take the Royal Salute and inspect the guard.
There will be a 21-gun salute from Pt Jerningham on Wellington's waterfront.
Mr Key and Dame Patsy will speak before the party moves to the banquet hall for a reception.
