The Green Party are the first New Zealand political party to hit the milestone of 100,000 likes.

They're at 12.5 percent in the latest Newshub-Reid research poll, but they've got more Facebook likes than the Government - the National Party only have 75,000 likes. Within the last year alone they've gained 22,000 new followers.

Their most popular post so far is a video captioned "No to Trump: We will not let hate triumph." The video has close to 5000 likes and nearly 500 comments.

However, when it comes to profiles on Facebook, Prime Minister Bill English is still in the lead. He's got 100,000 followers on Facebook, with Winston Peters coming in second with close to 80,000.

Over on Twitter, Greens co-leader Metiria Turei has the highest follower count of the major leaders with 23,400 followers.

Prime Minister Bill English is sitting on almost 20,000 - but no one compares to former Prime Minister John Key who has clocked up a massive 235,000.

Labour deputy leader Jacinda Ardern appears to have the best Instagram game. She's got more followers than Labour leader Andrew Little and the Prime Minister combined.
