Labour promises 'winter payment' for heating costs

  • 10/07/2017

Labour is promising what it's calling a winter payment to help beneficiaries and superannuitants with heating costs.

Under the scheme, couples would get $750 and singles $450 as a cash payment every May covering the winter months to September.

Beneficiaries and superannuitants would get the Winter Energy Payment on top of their other payments. It would come at an annual cost of $374 million.

The payment is part of Labour's counter offer to voters following National's $2 billion families package announced in this year's Budget.

The full details of the policy will be announced on Tuesday.
