The Labour Government appears to be edging the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) over the line.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was in Vietnam where she was working to renegotiate parts of the agreement with 11 countries still participating in talks.
But what do New Zealanders think about the deal?
Newshub took to the streets to ask the question: Should New Zealand sign the TPP agreement?
While a few offered thoughtful opinions both for and against, a chorus of Kiwis didn't know.
"No I'm not too fussed particularly," one said.
Another said they'd "heard about it but I don't really care too much about it."
"I don't even know what that is," another agreed.
"Absolutely," one man said.
"We live in a global market, whether we like it or not, and we've got greater influence from within than from sitting on the outside."
