Peter Dunne picks National's next leader

  • 13/02/2018

As guest host for The Project, former United Future leader Peter Dunne has predicted who will be National's next leader.

Bill English announced on Tuesday he would be resigning from Parliament after 27 years of service.

Mr Dunne chose from 10 potential candidates for his replacement, who each appeared as characters in a virtual 'Guess Who?' game.

"I think this is a time of generational change," he said, disqualifying older potential candidates Gerry Brownlee and Steven Joyce.

He said he doesn't believe Paula Bennett, Judith Collins or Jonathan Coleman have the popularity to be leader.

Mr Dunne's pick is Simon Bridges ("Provided he does something about the diction") with Nikki Kaye as deputy.

Amy Adams came in third largely due to her advantage of being from the South Island.
