NZ First gone, Greens the new kingmaker in latest Newshub poll

New Zealand First would be out of Parliament, according to the latest Newshub-Reid Research poll.

The Government coalition partner has failed to reach the 5 percent threshold needed to gain a place in Parliament - getting just 2.4 percent of the vote.

It's the second time in a row NZ First has sunk below the threshold in a Newshub poll - its last result was 3.8 percent.

And with Labour and National failing to gain enough seats to govern alone, it raises the prospect of a new king-maker party - the Greens.

The Green Party is the only minor party to reach the 5 percent threshold - and it only just scraped in, with 5.7 percent.

That's a drop of 0.3 percent from the last Newshub poll, and a continuation of a downward trend - the party gained 6.3 percent of the vote in last year's election.

And while they are the kingmakers, there is no indication as yet they would ever sign up to a so-called 'teal deal' with the National Party.

But the Greens' Memorandum of Understanding with Labour was torn to shreds on election night, so anything is possible.
