The chief executive in charge of the animal tracing system at the centre of Mycoplasma bovis prevention has resigned.

Michelle Edge will remain the chief executive of OSPRI until September. OSPRI is a partnership between primary industry and Government, and runs the national animal identification and tracing (NAIT) scheme and TBfree.

Ms Edge authored a report into Nait that found a lack of compliance with the system had slowed and complicated the Mycoplasma bovis response effort.

"The company is now well positioned to further the integration of livestock traceability with animal health management and national disease surveillance under its Strategic Plan and to deliver these initiatives in partnership with industry and government," Ms Edge said.

The board is now recruiting for Ms Edge's replacement.

Minister for Biosecurity Damien O'Connor announced new measures for the eradication of M bovis on Friday, including notifying the neighbours of M bovis-affected farms.
