Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's baby birth plan released

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern plans to give birth at Auckland Hospital, details released by the Prime Minister's office today have confirmed.

The birth announcement will be made by Ms Ardern and her partner Clarke Gayford before a formal announcement is released by the Prime Minister's office.

There will be no one-on-one interviews about the birth or any other announcements until after the Prime Minister has given birth.

Ms Ardern's office says there will are contingency plans in place in case the Prime Minister is not in Auckland.

At the point that Jacinda Ardern arrives at hospital to have the baby, Acting Prime Minister responsibilities will begin for Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.

The release asks for some peace and quiet following the birth.

"While the couple are happy to share with the public some moments with their new baby they ask that media respect the family's privacy in the weeks set aside to be together after the birth, and during private family moments."
