The President of Nauru has sung New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern a song written especially for her during her visit to Nauru.

Ms Ardern is in the country for the Pacific Islands Forum, arriving two days after Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.

The song was called 'Jacinda New Star in the Sky', and had a special verse dedicated to Ms Ardern's baby daughter Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford.

"A little baby-star is born," the lyrics said.

"Neve Te Aroha, full of love, her future is bright and secure. With all our plans fulfilled, our golden year 2018.

"A festive and joyus Nauru, we'll never forget Aotearoa our friend."

The President was accompanied by an all-male choir as he sang, and another man played the guitar.

Ms Ardern took a video of the performance and clapped for the men when they had finished the performance. She beamed with a smile throughout, and thanked them when it ended.
