Jacinda Ardern denies engagement rumours, again

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has laughed off rumours of engagement after she was spotted with a ring on her ring finger.

Ms Ardern wore the large silver ring with a black stone during a video posted to her Facebook page on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister confirmed to Newshub on Thursday she is not currently engaged.

"I am going to confess… I get eczema and a little bit of swelling on my fingers from time to time, so I rotate where I wear my rings, and apparently make national news at the same time.

"I'm so sorry the New Zealand public now need to know about the eczema", Ms Ardern said.

It's not the first time people have speculated over whether Ms Ardern is engaged to her partner Clarke Gayford.

Mr Gayford is the father of her daughter Neve Te Aroha Ardern Gayford. Ms Ardern said in January she thought the pair would marry one day.

"We are a really open and tolerant society in New Zealand...  neither of us have a particular stance on marriage," she told RadioLIVE at the time.

"I predict we will one day. We happen to have done things in reverse a little bit, but that happens in life sometimes too."

But in December 2017 she also denied rumours she was engaged to Mr Gayford after she also wore a ring on her left ring finger.

"I'm happy to confirm that I have eczema on my left hand, which causes me to rotate where I wear my beautiful onyx ring. So no, I am not engaged," she said.

"I do however suffer from a small skin condition, which is not very romantic. Glad to have cleared that up."
