National's 'Bluegreens' conference kicks off

The direction of the National Party's environmental policy will be revealed shortly.

The party's annual 'Bluegreens' forum kicks off in Raglan on Saturday.

The party is expected to announce policy documents in areas like climate change and biotechnology.

Former Chief Science Advisor Sir Peter Gluckman will be there too.

MP Scott Simpson chairs the Bluegreen group, which was founded in the late 1990s.

It's the 21st year of the event, and comes after former National Party member and Greens leadership candidate Vernon Tava formed a so-called blue-green or 'teal' party called Sustainable New Zealand.
