Australians back call for Jacinda Ardern to be their Prime Minister

Should Jacinda Ardern be the next Prime Minister of Australia?

That's the question being asked after her handling of the Christchurch terror attack.

Australian comedian Sammy J has compared her to current "gormless, wide-eyed personality vacuums" in Australian politics - and called for a Royal Commission on whether Ardern should take over.

"This commission was established in response to the groundswell of support for the leadership qualities of Jacinda Ardern," he said in a sketch posted to ABC TV's Facebook page.

"Ms Ardern's dignified and compassionate response to recent events has seen New Zealand's international reputation catapulted to eye-watering levels.

"By contrast, Australia remains best-known around the world for a grown man who used to tackle crocodiles in tight khaki pants whilst shouting 'crikey'.

"That and the systematic incarceration of genuine refugees."

Sammy J points out this wouldn't be the first time Australia has had a leader from New Zealand in the country - a reference to the "Barnaby Joyce experiment".

However Ardern would be forced to make several compromises, including accepting that pavlova was invented by Australia, Crowded House was an Aussie band and she'd have to refer to 'chilly bins' as an 'esky' from now on.

In return for generously gifting Ardern to Australia, New Zealand would get television presenter Karl Stefanovic in return.

It seems many Australians are taking the issue seriously and would be keen to embrace Ardern as their new leader.

"I would welcome her with open arms," one person commented on the video.

"She is amazing! We would be lucky to have her!" another said.
