Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is holding a media conference on Monday around 5pm, where she's expected to discuss plans to address New Zealand's security issues following the Christchurch terror attacks.

Newshub political editor Tova O'Brien says Ardern has had policy officials working "round the clock" to prepare plans for proposed gun law changes.

Top security agency officials have also been ordered to explain why they failed to pick up the alleged gunman in the lead-up to the attack.
