Valid debate to be had about electoral system changes - Tova O'Brien

  • 06/03/2019

The Prime Minister was forced to rule out any changes to New Zealand's electoral system on Tuesday after a new Bill from Green MP Golriz Ghahraman stirred up contention.

Ms Ghahraman has proposed the Government consider a range of recommendations made by the Electoral Commission in 2012, including lowering the threshold for election from five percent to four percent of votes.

But Newshub's Political Editor Tova O'Brien told The AM Show that while it raised a valid debate, it also reeked of self-interest from a politician from a party teetering in the polls.

O'Brien also talked to host Duncan Garner about so-called 'Kiwi Jihadi' Mark Taylor, who has re-emerged over the last few days after reports he was imprisoned in Syria.
