A major fire and police presence has turned up at Parliament with smoke seen coming from the old Press Gallery building.

Speaker of the House Trevor Mallard could be seen talking to fire crew on the driveway entrance to Parliament Buildings.

Newshub understands it may have something to do with the chicken being cooked for MPs' lunches served at the beehive cafe Copperfields.

Copperfields is normally out of bounds for camera crew, but Newshub was given special access to capture images of the area.

Fire and Emergency said they are still seeking out the source of the smoke.

Smoke could be seen coming from a vent in the building.
