Simon Bridges kicked out of Parliament for mocking Trevor Mallard

Simon Bridges has been kicked out of Parliament after mocking Speaker Trevor Mallard.

The Opposition leader accused Mallard of having better hearing in his right ear during an exchange in the House on Wednesday.

"I've had enough," Mallard told Bridges. "The member knows he will resume his seat when I stand up. He will start off by withdrawing and apologising for not doing that."

Mallard told Bridges he had been "testing his patience" during the session, for "interjecting...repeatedly".

Bridges then asked Mallard "to reflect on the tape".

"Because it does much rather seem that your left ear is rather more acute at picking these things up than your right ear."

Mallard then gave the National MP his marching orders.

"It's just run of the mill Parliament," Bridges said afterwards. "All in a day's work."

It's not the first time Bridges has been kicked out of the House.

Last year he was booted out after he suggested the Speaker was "protecting" Jacinda Ardern during an exchange regarding Czech drug smuggler Karel Sroubek.
