Megan Woods, Darryn Webb and Grant Robertson expected to reveal more on COVID-19 isolation escapee, address Tiwai Smelter closure

This livestream is now over.

The COVID-19 press conference will look slightly different on Thursday, with NZDF Air Commodore Darryn Webb and Labour MP Megan Woods, who are in charge of managed isolation facilities, fronting media.

It follows the escape of a man from an Auckland facility who later tested positive for COVID-19. It is expected more information will be revealed about this case.

They will be accompanied by Finance Minister Grant Robertson who is expected to comment on the closure of the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter.

On Thursday Rio Tinto announced the smelter will close next year in what's anticipated to be a devastating blow to the Southland economy.

It's estimated 1000 jobs will be lost.
