Iain Lees-Galloway, Clare Curran give final speeches before leaving Parliament

This livestream is now over.

Disgraced former Immigration Minister Iain Lees-Galloway and Labour MP Clare Curran will be two of five MPs giving their valedictory speeches in Parliament on Tuesday.

Alongside Curran and Lees-Galloway, Labour MPs Ruth Dyson and Raymond Huo and Green MP Gareth Hughes will all give their final remarks to the House.

Lees-Galloway is leaving Parliament after being fired by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern for his year-long consensual but "inappropriate" affair with a former staffer. Lees-Galloway had been the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety as well as the Minister for Immigration at the time of the affair.

Curran announced in August 2019 she would step down before the 2020 election after a 12-year career. Curran had previously been the Minister of Broadcasting before being stripped of her portfolios in 2018 for not disclosing a meeting set up using her personal email account.

In a 2020 interview with Donna Chislom, Curran revealed she was diagnosed with PTSD from a harrowing Question Time over her email use and had six to eight months of psychological treatment.

"It was the worst nightmare in front of everyone. I remember a sensation of pressure that built up, and quite honestly, during those first few days I felt like I was literally going to die," she said.

Hughes and Huo are stepping down to spend more time with their families, while Dyson said she was leaving to "pursue other challenges" after 27 years in Parliament.
