Have your say: Do you believe a Labour-Greens Government will introduce a wealth tax?

  • 14/10/2020

In the week leading up to election day, parties have been attacking each other over whether a wealth tax could be introduced in the next parliamentary cycle.

The Greens have proposed a wealth tax where assets over $1 million would be taxed at 1 percent and wealth over $2 million would be taxed at 2 percent.

Labour leader Jacinda Ardern has repeatedly ruled out introducing it if re-elected. But the Greens' Chlöe Swarbrick said there are "ongoing discussions" about walking away from a post-election deal with Labour since it is a "top priority" for her party.

National leader Judith Collins is still convinced Labour will bow to the Greens and introduce a wealth tax if re-elected, despite Ardern calling this speculation as "the last roll of the misinformation dice".
