NZ Election 2020: Labour needs Greens to govern, National slips in latest poll

Support for Labour has dropped 1 percent to 46 meaning they'll need the Greens to form a Government, while National has fallen a percentage point to 31 percent in the latest TVNZ Colmar Brunton poll.

This result would give Labour 59 seats - two short of governing alone.

ACT is on 8 percent - no change from the last poll - while the Greens have risen by 2 percent to 8. NZ First has also risen to 3 percent.

Labour was on 47 percent in the previous Colmar Brunton poll, National on 32 percent, while ACT, Green, and NZ First had 8, 6, and 2 percent respectively.

In the latest poll, Labour leader Jacinda Ardern is on 55 percent as the preferred Prime Minister, well ahead of National leader Judith Collins on 20 percent.

These results follow last month's Newshub-Reid Research poll showing National on 29.6 percent with Labour dominating on 50.1 percent - showing it could govern alone.

Even with potential Coalition partner ACT registering 8 percent in this poll, the high 20s wouldn't be enough for National to form a Government.
