Newshub Political Editor Tova O'Brien is the new co-host of Three's political and current affairs programme Newshub Nation alongside existing host Simon Shepherd.

The television show, which airs live on Saturdays at 9:30am before repeating on Sundays and Mondays, will return to Kiwis' screens on February 27.

"I'm utterly thrilled to be joining the brilliant Simon Shepherd and the hard-working, hard-hitting, fun Newshub Nation team," O'Brien says

"This show has always been a big part of my political life and the perfect way to start a weekend!  The long form interviews and political current affairs give us an exciting opportunity to dig a little deeper and get to the stories behind the stories."

Shepherd says: "Politicians look out!"

"I can't wait to share the Newshub Nation hosting desk with Tova, and see what she can do when she dives deeper into the issues. And there are so many," he says.

"2020 delivered the Government an historic mandate: what will they choose to do with it? Alongside Tova, I look forward to holding them to account."

Sarah Bristow, Newshub Director of News, said the pair did a "terrific job" co-hosting the show's post-election special last year.

"I'm really excited to have them both take a leading role on the show throughout 2021 as we continue to deliver in-depth interviews, help make sense of policy and politics and take a closer look at issues facing New Zealand and New Zealanders."

In addition to Newshub Nation, Three and Newshub also have news and current affairs shows The AM Show, Newshub Live at 11.30AM, Newshub Live at 4.30PM, Newshub Live at 6PM, The Project and The Hui in its portfolio as well as online news platform newshub.co.nz

Newshub Nation is made with the support of NZ On Air.
