Budget 2021 is just one sleep away and, as per usual, the Government is keeping quiet on which areas will get a major cash injection.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says this year's Budget will be a "continuation" of the Government's work to support New Zealand's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. However, she's promising spending will be more targeted with key priorities being ensuring Kiwis are kept safe from the virus, accelerating the county's rebuild, and addressing long-term issues like housing, climate change and child wellbeing.

There's already been a handful of pre-Budget announcements, such as $67.4 million being directed towards supporting the public sector become carbon neutral by 2025 and $170 million over four years to deliver pay parity for early learning teachers.

About $926 million worth of savings from the COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund have been found by ministers. Finance Minister Grant Robertson says the "recovery Budget" will outline details of how that will be reprioritised and how the fund is being managed.
