Livestream: MPs to debate China's Uighur treatment with Parliament on edge after Mallard stoush

  • 05/05/2021

Politicians on Wednesday are expected to debate an ACT Party-proposed motion on whether China is committing "possible severe human rights abuses" against the Uighur people in Xinjiang.

The debate is expected to happen in Parliament following Question Time at 2pm. The motion will no longer include the word "genocide" after a request from Labour to remove it.

Wednesday's session also follows a stoush on Tuesday night between National and Trevor Mallard over allegations the Speaker made against a parliamentary staffer.
