COVID-19: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern tests negative after taking sick day

Jacinda Ardern has tested negative for COVID-19 after the Prime Minister took her first sick day since the pandemic unfolded last year.

A spokesperson for Ardern confirmed on Tuesday afternoon the Prime Minister had returned a negative test.

Ardern had taken a sick day after "suffering the consequences of having a child that goes to daycare and has picked up the seasonal sniffle". The Prime Minister's 3-year-old daughter Neve also had the sniffles, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson earlier confirmed Ardern would get a COVID-19 test, as per Ministry of Health guidelines.

Ardern on Tuesday was working from Premier House near Parliament, the official Prime Minister's residence in Wellington.

Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson has stepped into Ardern's role during her absence.
