Chris Hipkins reveals plan for students returning to school, Delta outbreak developments

Education Minister Chris Hipkins is announcing the Government's plan for students to return to school in locked-down Auckland.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed earlier this month that schools would not reopen in Auckland on October 18 as initially planned, due to the need for further preparation.

Distance learning instead recommenced at the beginning of term 4, which started this week.

Hipkins is expected to outline when some students, most likely senior students, could return to the classroom, particularly with exams coming up and pressure building on them.

Hipkins, as COVID-19 Response Minister, will also provide an update on COVID-19 cases. The Ministry of Health registered 94 cases on Tuesday, 87 in Auckland and seven in Waikato.
