COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins is announcing changes to managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) and providing an update on COVID-19 in Christchurch.

The Ministry of Health has registered two cases of COVID-19 in Christchurch from the same household, one of whom had recently returned from Auckland.

Hipkins told The AM Show the individuals are not vaccinated and did not use the COVID Tracer app, so there is limited information regarding their whereabouts.

Hipkins is also expected to announce shorter stays for returnees in MIQ. Newshub understands MIQ stays will be halved to seven day stays, followed by three days home isolation.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield will provide an update on COVID-19 cases. On Wednesday, 74 cases were reported, 68 in Auckland and six in Waikato.

Auckland and parts of Waikato remain in alert level 3 lockdown.
