Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is joined by Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield to provide more details about the new COVID Protection Framework, or 'traffic light' system, coming into effect this Friday.

Ardern will outline which level of the traffic light system each region will begin at and what the criteria will be. It's already been confirmed that Auckland will begin at 'red', the most restive level, due to the city's high number of COVID-19 cases.

Freedoms under the new framework will be determined by vaccine certificates.

Regions with high vaccination rates are expected to start at the less restrictive 'orange' level. It's already been confirmed that no region will begin at 'green', which is similar to alert level 1.
