Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is speaking to reporters in Auckland during her first visit to the city since it was locked down almost three months ago.
It also comes after a large march at Parliament on Tuesday, with protesters expressing anger about lockdown restrictions and vaccine mandates.
Auckland is still at alert level 3, but step 2 rules came into force on Wednesday, meaning retail stores and public venues can open, and outdoor gatherings of up to 25 people are allowed.
