Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson is joined by Public Health Director Dr Caroline McElnay to provide an update on how the new traffic light system is working.

The whole of New Zealand is now in the COVID Protection Framework, or 'traffic light' system, which has permanently replaced the alert levels.

Freedoms are now determined by vaccination status and gathering limits depending on which level of the traffic light system a region is at.

The Ministry of Health said on Thursday there were around 70,000 requests for assistance to download a vaccine certificate and temporary exemptions had been emailed out.

Three COVID-19 cases were reported in Taranaki on Thursday, the region now joining Auckland, Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Nelson and Rotorua with active cases.

The latest data shows 86 percent of the eligible population is now fully vaccinated.
