Video: Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern applauded for drinking water during Harvard speech

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has proven Americans will applaud her for almost anything after she was given a hearty ovation for taking a sip of water.

Ardern was giving a speech to a crowd at Harvard University in Massachusetts when she stopped to take a water break.

For some reason, the crowd roared with applause as Ardern took a sip.

The Prime Minister joked with the crowd and said: "Well if I even get applauded for drinking water, what a good crowd."
