Acting Prime Minister Grant Robertson has tested positive for COVID-19.

Robertson, who is acting Prime Minister while Jacinda Ardern is in Europe, posted a picture of a positive test on his Instagram account on Thursday morning.

"I guess it had to happen eventually! Fairly mild symptoms, but will try to do right thing and get some rest. Still Acting PM while I am compos mentis (some would say that is questionable at best of times!) but grateful to colleagues for stepping in for House and meetings today."

Compos mentis means to be of sound mind and in control of one's actions.

A number of Cabinet ministers have had COVID-19, including Prime Minister Ardern and the former COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins.

Ardern contracted COVID-19 in mid-May, just days out from the Budget and her highly anticipated trip to the United States. She had been isolating with her partner Clarke Gayford, who tested positive for the virus earlier. Ardern ended up not attending the Budget event in Parliament, but did travel overseas.

The Government is expected to announce later on Thursday whether there will be any changes to the traffic light settings. New Zealand is currently at the orange level.
