Joe Biden 'took the time' to meet all New Zealand officials at White House last week, PM Jacinda Ardern reveals

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has revealed US President Joe Biden took the time to meet all New Zealand officials present at the White House last week - not just her.

Reflecting on her meeting with Biden, Ardern told AM that gesture showed "the measure of the man" he was.

Ardern met Biden at the White House last Tuesday (local time) where the leaders aired concerns about China's bid to expand its influence in the Pacific

The Prime Minister said it was a "big deal" that Biden made the effort to meet other New Zealand officials.

"One of the things that's often quite hard to convey is the nature [of] the person," Ardern told AM host Ryan Bridge on Tuesday.

"Something that really stood out for me was… President Biden took the time to walk us back through the [White House] rose garden and to come out to the waiting area where other New Zealand officials had been waiting during the meeting, and he took the time to meet everyone."

Ardern went on to say that spoke "volumes" about Biden as a person.

"No question, it's a special thing to be able to visit the White House," she said.

Ardern was the first New Zealand leader to visit the White House since Sir John Key met then-President Barack Obama there in 2014. Under that administration, Biden was Obama's Vice President.
