Newshub national correspondent Patrick Gower and NZ First MP Shane Jones exchanged a friendly spar on Saturday over Jones' prospects at the next general election.
Former political editor Gower told Jones "NZ First is not the way to go" if he wanted to get back into Parliament.
Gower, appearing on Newshub Nation's panel, was adamant NZ First leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters would not be able to get the party back into Parliament - and suggested Jones was perhaps better off joining the Māori Party.
Jones thought Gower was bonkers.
"The last time I saw Paddy, he was larger than he is and he's lost a lot of weight and in the loss of his weight his brain has shrunk," Jones said, as Gower broke out laughing.
